The lodged sleeps 30 and is equipped with bathroo The Observation TowerThe observation tower provides an excellent view for those in the cabin 125 feet above the ground! The Original Junaluska CrossThe cross which once stood above beautiful Lake Junaluska, Asheville, North Carolina, from 1922 to 1994, has been restored. The cross is equipped with lights and is mounted near the entrance of Mount Shepherd and, once again, serves as a witness of God's love and grace. Summer CampsSummer camps are offered in June and July for grades one through twelve. Campers are led through day camps and overnight camp with activities which include horseback camps, golf camp, camps to the Appalachian Trail and to the Nantahala River, blobbing, canoeing, high ropes course, environmental education, camping and cooking out, crafts, games, pottery, and much more! Brochures are available in January. Presentations of Mount Shepherd's summer camps can be easily scheduled. Special DinnersCatered dinners help make your event more enjoyable! So you can focus only on your event, Mount Shepherd will provide delicious meals. Christmas dinners are especially popular! Other facilities and program opportunitiesThe Rappelling and Climbing Tower is a challenging activity for children and youth (fourth grade and older) and adults! Rappel down or climb up the twenty foot or the forty foot section! The twenty foot sections are complete. The mini-wall (crawl wall) is for grades one through three and is guided by adults/parents in the group. Each climber climbs no higher than 8 feet while holding onto alphabet shaped holds. The picnic shelter is available to all and may be used at no cost by church groups within the High Point District of the Western North Carolina Conference. Parking is available at the picnic shelter. The swimming pool is open from mid-May to the last of August. Groups must provide their own certified lifeguard. The high ropes course is an excellent tool for spiritual growth, group building and for just having fun! Trained staff lead groups through an exciting and challenging experience that is designed for grades six and above. The blob and "over the water zip line" are warm weather aquatic activities that are just plain FUN! These activities are for grades four and above. Call Mount Shepherd for more details and to schedule your group. The pond offers fishing for those wanting to try their skills at catching nice size bass and bream. Just bring your own pole, bait and patience. Canoeing is available for all ages. Children eight years old and younger must have an adult in the canoe. Groups or individuals must provide their own certified lifeguard. Off-Site AttractionsThe North Carolina Zoo is only 20 minutes away. Enjoy the African Pavilion and the North America Pavilion.
