Dear Mount Shepherd Family, As the Christmas season draws near, our hearts turn again to the promises spoken long before a manger ever held a newborn King. In the book of Isaiah, we hear the words of hope spoken into a weary world: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given… and he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”(Isaiah 9:6)
These ancient words remind us that Jesus did not come only as a triumphant King, but also as the Suffering Servant—the One who entered our world in humility, carried our burdens, and brought light to every dark and quiet corner of our lives. At Mount Shepherd, we see glimpses of this hope every summer and every retreat weekend: in the joy of campers singing at the lake, in the quiet prayers shared on hiking trails, and in the moments when a child hears—perhaps for the first time—that they are deeply loved by God.
This Christmas, as we gather with family and friends, may we remember that Jesus came to be both near to us in our struggles and victorious over them. The manger and the cross tell one story: that God has drawn close, and that God's love is stronger than anything that comes against us.
Thank you for being part of the Mount Shepherd family—whether you serve, give, pray, or send campers to experience the wonder of this place. Your support helps us continue sharing the good news of Jesus with every person who steps onto this mountain.
If you feel led to give this season, we invite you to support our Ripple Effect campaign—a generous matching gift is helping every dollar make double the impact as we restore and renew our lake for generations of campers to come.
We are grateful for you, and we pray that this season fills your home with peace, joy, and the hope of Christ. From all of us at Mount Shepherd, Merry Christmas, and may the light of the promised King shine brightly in your hearts. With gratitude and joy, Christina Gibbs, Executive Director Mount Shepherd Retreat Center
